The Animation Academy could focus on the evolution of animation from Walt’s earliest films to modern day Pixar favorites. Mickey and Minnie could continue to host a revamped Disney Junior Dance Party. Imagineering could introduce attractions dedicated to Oswald the Rabbit, Donald Duck and Goofy - taking over the soundstages and the Monsters Inc. Imagineering should scrap the behind-the-scenes studio theme, expand the Hollywood Boulevard streetscape, focus Hollywood Land on Walt Disney’s early days and make it the home to the Fab Five.Ī reimagined Hollywood Land could cater to younger kids who lost their playground when A Bug’s Land was bulldozed for Avengers Campus. The studio back lot theme is a relic from decades ago when former Disney CEO Michael Eisner was obsessed with competing with Universal Studios. Disneyland doesn’t know what to do with the outdoor theater in the studio back lot. Mickey’s Philharmagic feels like a placeholder. The Disney Animation building is underutilized and under realized. The old Who Wants to be a Millionaire - Play It and Hollywood and Dine sound stages are essentially empty - save for a few special events. Pretty much all of Hollywood Land is in play for Imagineering to rethink and reinvent. Mickey and the rest of the Fab Five would fit perfectly in the faux Tinseltown when they are visiting DCA. With Marvel super heroes moving into Avengers Campus, that leaves Hollywood Land without any natural residents. You’ll probably never find Disney princesses wandering around DCA, but the park will always need a sprinkling of classic Disney characters to keep visitors happy. Walt’s story could easily continue in Hollywood Land - where Imagineering could lean into the history of the company’s founder and early Disney animation. Hollywood is an important part of Walt Disney’s origin story - which primarily plays out right now on the Buena Vista Street entry promenade. Imagineering will focus on new attractions based on the most popular Disney, Pixar and Marvel intellectual properties - billion dollar movie franchises that are instantly familiar to visitors and bound to make cash registers ring. In all cases, your feedback is encouraged in the comments field. That opens up big chunks of Hollywood Land, Pixar Pier, Paradise Gardens, Grizzly Peak and Pacific Wharf for Imagineering to work their magic while sparing most of Buena Vista Street, Cars Land and Avengers Campus. I believe less than a dozen untouchable attractions remain safe over the next few decades - leaving much of DCA in play as Walt Disney Imagineering continues to refine and improve on the big picture concept for the park of Walt Disney’s 1920s California.
